The open road awaits…

It’s a nice day for a drive I think to myself as I close the front door to my humble abode. I breathe in the fresh crisp morning air through my nose, hold it for 4 or 5 seconds and let it out through my mouth. I look out to my left to the neighbors yard and let my gaze move slowly to the right, casually taking in this quiet morning in my neighborhood. I listen to the breeze as it rustles the leaves on the tree in the yard. My eyes continue their journey until they come to rest on the car sitting in the driveway on my right. My head catches up with my eyes as a smile forms on my face. My head nods up and down all on its own as I say to the vehicle,”Did you miss me Caddy?” She seems to say back to me,”Of course! Now get in and let’s do what we do!” I walk over and around Caddy doing a full walk around to check out her exterior. 30 seconds later I reach the driver side door and get in. Pulling the seat belt across my body and locking it into place I feel the seat immediately become part of my torso. I look around the interior smiling. I look at my side and rear view mirrors checking for placement. I turn the ignition and start her up. She clears her throat once and roars to life before settling down to a low steady purr. I grip the steering wheel with my left hand and it becomes one with it. The gas and brake pedals become an extension of my right foot. I reach for the gear shift instinctively and put it in reverse. I look back over my right shoulder through the rearview window as I back out the driveway. Turning the wheel clockwise, Caddy backs out to the right. Applying the break for a moment just long enough to get into a mental zone. Mind and car are now in perfect sync. Flesh, leather, rubber and metal are now one. My senses are heightened and my body is relaxed. As I fall into my zone I press the gas and feel myself roll forward. My growl increases in volume and intensity as I speed up and leave the house behind. The open road awaits…hang on for the ride.
